
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 46

Requesting the Division of highways name the bridge at Myrtle,
Mingo County, spanning Trace Creek and connecting State Route
7/6, the "William K. Hopkins Bridge".

Whereas, William K. Hopkins, born January 5, 1949, was the son
of Elvis and Virginia (Fry) Hopkins; and

Whereas, William K. Hopkins served his nation with pride and
distinction as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps;
and

Whereas, On December 14, 1968, Lance Corporal William K.
Hopkins was killed in action in the Quang Nam Province of South
Vietnam; and

Whereas, It is fitting that a lasting tribute to Lance
Corporal William K. Hopkins, who paid the ultimate price in the
pursuit of democracy, be made near his home; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
name the bridge at Myrtle, Mingo County, spanning Trace Creek and
connecting State Route 7/6, the "William K. Hopkins Bridge" in
tribute to this outstanding young man who paid the ultimate price
in the pursuit of democracy during the conflict in Vietnam; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner is requested to have
made and be placed, at either end of the bridge, signs identifying
the bridge as the "William K. Hopkins Bridge "; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Division of
Highways and the family of the late William K. Hopkins.
